1. Any child developing a fever during the day must go home immediately. An auxilliary temperature of 100.4F (38C), or a rectal temperature of 101.3F (38.5C) is considered a fever.

2.    The child must be free of fever (un-medicated) for 24 hours before re-admittance to the day care centre.  Please note that the 24-hour exclusion period does not include the day your child is sent home.  Exception:  A child who has a fever as a result of teething (this must be agreed upon by staff and parent) may be readmitted after the child has been free of fever (un-medicated) for only 12 hours.  However, should the child be unusually irritable or requiring the constant attention of one staff member, the parents will be notified and must pick up their child.

3.    Any child who has had two liquid bowel movements (diarrhea) must go home.  The child may be readmitted 24 hours after last liquid bowel movement.

4.    A child with repeated vomiting with or without other symptoms must go home.  The child may be readmitted 24 hours after last vomiting session.

5.    Any potentially infectious condition i.e. eye infection, suspicious body rash, etc. should be seen by a doctor.  The child will be readmitted when a note has been obtained from the doctor stating that the condition is not contagious and when the child has been free from this condition or has been treated for 24 hours.

6.    If a child is unusually irritable or tired the parents will be notified and staff will use their discretion to send the child home for the remainder of the day.

7.    In order to reduce transmission of possible communicable diseases, please keep your child home and see your doctor immediately if you suspect that your child may be ill.  Many childhood diseases are communicable at the onset, therefore exposure to childhood illnesses can be reduced if children are kept home at the onset.  Frequent hand washing is also highly recommended whether or not your child is sick.

8.    Any child too ill to participate fully in child care activities should be cared for at home. If during the day, a teacher determines that a child is not well enough to participate, they will be sent home.
