When a child is enrolled in any of the programs of the Glebe Parents Day Care with a life threatening allergy, the following procedures will be followed:
If it is a recent diagnosis in the main building, a meeting between the program coordinator, one program staff, kitchen staff and the parents will take place to discuss the allergy and our procedures. If it is a recent diagnosis at one of the satellite programs, a meeting will take place between the program staff and the parents to discuss the allergy and our procedures. Once the Board of Directors has decided that a ban is necessary a letter will be sent out to parents explaining the situation. This letter will list the allergen(s) that will be banned from the centre. Signs will be posted in the entranceways and in the program which the child with the allergy attends. In the main centre, the life-threatening substance will not be permitted in any part of the building including the staff room, resource centre and the basement. This also includes the lunches that the kindergarten children bring into the centre. In the satellite programs this ban will pertain to those rooms used by the programs only. The life threatening substance will not be permitted on the day care bus, van or any bus chartered by the day care if it will be used by the child with the allergy. This procedure is in effect while the child attends the daycare - if there are no such children, this procedure does not apply. This letter will be included in the orientation kit and parents will be required to read and sign their acknowledgement on the child registration sheet. If the child does not bring the epipen to daycare, we will not accept the child. If the child arrives on a school bus the child’s parents will be called immediately.
Each case will be dealt with on an individual basis as the banning of certain substances would put too many restrictions on the other children if the substance was banned from the centre.
